Story
Our team of five intrepid paddlers - Ashley, Ant, Alan, Stephen and Jurgita will be attempting to complete the 26.2 mile London Kayakathon on the River Thames, now in its 3 year. This event takes place at the same time as the world-wide renowned London Marathon, the only difference being that the runners will be pounding the cobble-stoned streets of the capital whereas we shall be challenging the waves and currents of the River Thames over the same distance. Most of us have taken up the challenge as complete sea kayak beginners, training intensively and relentlessly since those cold, ever so cold, days of January, both out and in (brrrr!) the sea and river.
But why.....?
The monies raised will support the very important work done by the Kabor Project in Sierra Leone. Kabor supports young women who have all been affected by the Civil War in their African country of Sierra Leone. Some had to resort to living on the streets as prostitutes, whilst others were kept as ‘bush wives' by the rebels during the war and dragged across the country as the war fronts shifted. The war left countless children & young women traumatised and homeless.
What is Kabor?
Providing skills and training to young women, Kabor empowers them to rebuild their lives and create a better future for themselves, their children and communities.
Please help us to raise as much as possible and support this great cause and these very brave and courageous Young People.
So please dig deep and donate to help us continue our mission to support them!
