Story

Dear Friend

I have now completed my challenge to shave my hair off to raise awareness and funds for Endometriosis.  Thank you All so very much for your very generous donations.  They are much appreciated.  I must say, I can feel the wind blowing over my head now so may take a few of you up on the offer of a hat!   I thank you all again.  Blessings, Kam.

Dear Friend

You may or may not be aware of my poor health earlier this year which resulted in surgery.

After being in chronic lower abdominal pain for 7 months, in January, I finally agreed to see my GP, who at the time prescribed me antibiotics to clear an infection-if there was one.  The pain was so terrible that I could not sit comfortably for long periods of time, I felt exhausted and very unwell.

I consulted with a Gynaecologist who confirmed I had a cyst formed in an Ovary and had Endometriosis in my abdomen.

I am fortunate to have private healthcare and an excellent Gynaecologist who recommended and performed surgery asap.  I followed this up with complimentary therapies.

Endometriosis, the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK, affecting more than 2 million women in the UK, is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb (uterus) grows in other parts of the body (mainly in the abdominal cavity).  The tissue responds to a woman's hormonal cycle which causes the endometriosis to grow.  However, unlike a period, it remains within the body, where it bleeds and forms lesions, blood filled cysts, and scar tissue (adhesions).  This  can cause chronic debilitating pain, infertility and can lead to other medical problems which have a massive impact on women's quality of life.

Unfortunately, awareness and understanding of the condition is very low, even amongst healthcare professionals, and it can take a shocking 11 years for women to get an accurate diagnosis.  There is no known cause of endometriosis and no known cure.

Therefore to raise money and awareness for Endometriosis UK, at mid-day on Wednesday 28 July I am having my hair shaved off.  Yes.  You may have noticed how long my hair is and I have been growing it for this just cause.  See the pic!

I ask you to be generous and dig deep to support this worthy cause so they can use every penny raised to continue to offer vital, free support to women with endometriosis.

My target is £1000.00 which I intend to exceed and will provide evidence for all to see I completed my challenge.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Blessings

Kam Birdee
