Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have taken up the challenge of running the London Marathon again in memory of a very special little boy, Lawrence.

Lawrence was diagnosed with a disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) when he was just six years old. Lawrence's condition deteriorated very rapidly and he died in July 2005.

Lawrence's parent's Virginia and Peter acknowledged that, because of the disease, Lawrence's death was inevitable. However, there are millions of people who die every year because they don't have access to fresh water. Something can be done to prevent these deaths. Virginia and Peter wanted to raise enough money to install a well in memory of Lawrence.

The Playpump System combines a children's roundabout with a pump. Playpumps are usually installed in schools to harness the natural energy of children, but generally the water can also be used by the wider community. As the children play on the roundabout they pump water into a holding tank at a rate of 1400 litres per hour. Each pump can provide up to 2000 people with fresh water.

The response has been overwhelming, over the last 4 years, the Charity, Lawrence's Roundabout Well Appeal has raised enough money to install 37 pumps.

A pump costs £7,500 to install. (costs have increased from the previous £6,500 per well, due to the poor exchange rate and the fact that wells are now being installed in more remote areas)

One child dies every 15 seconds because they don't have access to fresh water.

My target is to raise enough money to install a pump. With your help we can remember the life of one very special little boy and help to improve the lives of thousands of other children.
