We've done it!
Total distance: 960 miles
Total climbing: 67500 feet (most of which seemed to occur between Bath to Land's End rather than Scotland or Lake District!!!)
Total cycling time (including breaks): 81 hours, 53 minutes, 53 seconds over 9 days
Longest day: 11 hours, 22 minutes (from Bath to Okehampton) – see below
Average speed: around 25k/ hour (except on the longest day where a strong head wind meant we struggled making 15k/h on the downhills – too frustrating to look at the average speed on those days so it’s not includedJ)
Most inspirational competitor: Allan (completing the whole journey in his bike wheelchair) - this is really really really well done!
Most memorable stage: Cycling along the northern Scottish coast – amazingly remote & beautiful!
Worst bit: Preston & Wigan rush hour, in pouring rain. No more said.
Punctures: None!! (just as well since I still can’t change a tire but don’t tell anyone!)
Favourite calories: Jelly Babies! (loads of them, whatever the colour)
Smiles & laughter: Many – sometimes slightly hysterical….
Tears: Only once (and nobody saw)
Best achievement: starting the ride as a group of friends / family and finishing it as even better friends. (and yes, Steve and I are still talking and didn’t discuss divorce even once!)
Single most important learning: Not every day is sunshineJ
