Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April 2017 my family and I were faced with the sudden loss of our Dad, Jack Williams, who died from the effects of undetected heart disease.

Dealing with the death of a loved one is one of the hardest things any of us will have to face. If someone close to you dies unexpectedly, it’s natural to ask why and how it could have happened.

Heart conditions like heart disease, cardiomyopathy and inherited heart rhythm disturbances can lead to cardiac arrest and sudden death. Not everyone with these conditions will die suddenly – but each person who does is one too many!

When I lost my mother to cancer in 2011 I didn’t really come to terms with her loss till 2016. During that year I decided to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support running 4 half marathons, 3 full and an ultra-marathon. Before I started my marathon challenge my main objective was to raise as much money as I could for an amazing cause… not once did I consider the positive impact that year would have on my life!

After my 2016 challenge was over I realised that running is an amazing tool when life gets tough and it can really help improve your outlook on everything. That year changed my whole attitude towards all aspects of my life and really helped me grieve the loss of my mam.

Throughout this painful experience of losing my dad, running has been a main coping mechanism of mine along with the continuing support of my amazing family and friends. Wanting to turn a negative situation into a positive I’ve decided to take my love for running and I’ve chosen to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in my father’s memory. I have set myself a challenge raising the bar compared to my 2016 challenge.

2018 Brings about the first year anniversary of my father’s death and the beginning of my 18 month challenge. During this time I am going to attempt to complete 7 Ultra-marathons, 350 miles over 7 events all listed below…

1. Feb 2018 – Brecon to Cardiff Ultra 43 miles
2. Apr 2018 – The Vale Ultra 32 miles
3. Jun 2018 – The South Wales Ultra 50 miles
4. Oct 2018 – The Gower Ultra 50 miles
5. Feb 2019 – Brecon to Cardiff Ultra 43 miles
6. Apr 2019 – The Vale Ultra 32 miles

And finally…

7. Jun 2019 – The South Wales Ultra 100 miles

If any of you generous people would like to donate (big or small) over the next 18 months to an amazing cause please do so! Many thanks!
