SpecialEffect enable fun, inclusion, independence and a better quality of life for physically disabled people across the world through the inspirational use of adaptive technology.

Story

HELLO! I am going to run 10km dressed in my birthday Yoshi costume. If I raise £250, News International will match it. Would you like to know more?

Part of it is that I wanted to become a runner. This is my first race before doing a half marathon, and hopefully the 2014 London Marathon.

My 30th in October was shared with Annabel, the friend with whom I fell in love with video games more than 20 years ago. I adore gaming. I've even written about it, in The Times and GamesMaster. It's wonderful. And so is Special Effect: this remarkable charity uses all sorts of technology to let disabled people fall in love with games.

Whether it's eye control, a head-controlled mouse, voice control or puff and blow, Special Effect lets people freak out to Call of Duty, racing and drawing games and all sorts. Watch some remarkable videos at http://www.specialeffect.org.uk/ and thank you for reading!
