Bupa Great Birmingham Run 2013 · 20 October 2013 ·

Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I like things like sitting down, eating biscuits and reading books. I don't like things like running about, getting sweaty and out of breath and having blisters. But what I like doesn't come into it.

My kid brother Kevin died last year after completing the Great Birmingham Run. He was only 36 and it happened completely out of the blue. He was fit and sporty and we still don't know why he didn't come home after the race.

All these months later, the pain is still unbearable. I have to do something to pay tribute to someone I loved more than I realised and who I will miss forever. It's a stupid idea on so many levels, but I can think of nothing more appropriate than following the path he did on 21 October 2012.

So I've cut down on the sitting about (though not the biscuits) and started the running around and sweating. I'll be taking part in a couple of shorter runs before October but it's all part of the build up to the Great Birmingham Run on 20 October 2013.

I'd be so incredibly grateful for any donation, no matter the amount, as it will be given to the charity nominated by Kev's wife, which is Cardiac Risk in the Young.

You can follow the exploits of me and others at www.runners4kev.com and www.twitter.com/runners4kev. I've also started a blog at www.lazycowen.wordpress.com. Now I just need to find time to actually do some of that running stuff.
