Hi,
I've decided to attempt/run the Paris marathon on the 11th April 2010. I'm not too sure how I'm going to get around the 26.2 mile route but hopefully with everyone knowing and donating, it will help me. I would be very grateful for your sponsership!
I'm running for the Children of the Andes. This is their website if you would like to know more: http://www.childrenoftheandes.org
Basically, the charity gives help to the street children and orphans of Columbia. There are an estimated 30,000 children living rough with no family or means to support themselves. They survive by any means possible and often end up involved in prostitution or drugs. Many are so young - under 10 - that they know no other life and it is this cycle that Children of the Andes is trying to break. The charity provides housing, clothing, food and education for as many children as they can. Their website is full of examples of how kids with nothing and no future have become rolemodels for their generation by learning skills that has allowed them to be constructive members of society.
I hope that you can take this opportunity in supporting me with this run in the knowledge that every penny we raise is going to make a real difference to the lives of people less fortunate than us.
I'll be keeping everyone updated on training and races to prep for the big day! Currently training for the Gosport half marathon on the 15th November!!
Thank you,
Kat
Update:
I ran the half in a time of 2hours 12minutes so I'm happy with that as a good start! The next one is going to be the heartbreak half marathon on the 31st January in the new forest. It's definitely a hilly one and start after exams! My final half marathon will be the half marathon on the 7th March as the last one before the big day!
Update:
The heartbreak half was shortened to a 10.6 mile run as there was too much ice! The last half marathon I did was the Portsmouth one on the 21st Feb. I got a personal best running it in 2hours and 2 seconds (not quite under two hours like I had hoped). The final race now before the big is Mad March 20 instead of the Milton Keynes half due to the dates. I have to say it's quite a scary name for a race but it will be 20 miles long!
