As a hearing parent, giving birth to a deaf child was truly traumatic. Would I ever be able to communicate with my own daughter? Her deafness was diagnosed as profound - would that mean she may never hear my voice? Questions, questions, I was at sea and knew absolutely nothing.

Nine years on and my beautiful daughter speaks as well as I, and with the help of a hearing aid and a cochlear implant attends mainstream school and is even starting to learn latin! Her progress is beyond my wildest dreams from those dark early days post diagnosis.

With knowledge, professional help and support deafness doesn't have to be a barrier to life. I'm running the London Marathon to spread the word and support the fantastic work of the NDCS.

Oh My Goodness. I have now RUN the London Marathon. It's official - my time 5 hours 13 mins. Which for a very hot day and considering that last week I was quite poorly, is a very good effort I think. Total raised for NDCS - just over £2,600 with a few more sponsors to collect!

It's incredible, the generosity and enthusiasm shown by everyone. Thank you all so, so much for the wonderful sponsorship. We are now over £2,600 - which is absolutely fantastic. Now comes the scary bit for me - living up to everyone's expectations. Fingers crossed. Here goes ...

Ps. To my last JG post, I am feeling much better, chest infection improving. I am 100% determined to be running on Sunday. Beginning to get nervous now. Still I do realise that trotting around London for a few hours is nothing compared to living with deafness for your whole life.

It is fabulous to see the fundraising clocking up way past the £2K total. I still have more funds to collect during these last few days before the BIG one. Thank you to each and every one of you who has kindly donated to the National Deaf Children's Society. It means so much.

Thank you so much to The Band from County Hell who have donated the £136 (which is showing up in my name - whoops) but which came from their kind donation of some ticket sales money from a fantastic gig they did at Grantham Guildhall last week. Brilliant, fun night. Fab music. x
