Royal Parks Half Marathon 2011 · 9 October 2011 ·

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 9 2011 to raise money for Refuge UK, to help women and children escaping domestic violence.  One woman in four is abused at some point in her life and two women are killed each week by a current or former partner.

People close to me have been exposed to domestic violence, and it appalls me that people are unable to be safe in their own homes, from the hands of those who should be looking after them the most. I want to support the difficult work that Refuge do to ensure that these families have a safe place to go, where they can be supported and can be in an environment where they are able to make the best decisions for themselves and their children.

If you want to check out my training blog (which should be entertaining, I've never done much running - the photo is of me dressed up for a Singalong Sound of Music) then have a look at http://www.it-is-not-that-simple.blogspot.com/.
