Thinking it didn't look so hard I thought I would put my name in the ballott for the London Marathon 2010 never ever thinking I would be accepted...to my horror/surprise St John's Ambulance decided I should put my money where my mouth is and offered me a place to run for them. Since I had already told everyone I had entered the Marathon it was too late to back out...that will teach me to open my mouth!!!
My task, along with clocking up the mileage with my training sessions is raising £1500 for what I think is a very worthwhile charity. St John Ambulance responds to hundreds of local incidents and major accidents each year. They play a crucial role in supporting the emergency services when help is needed. Their volunteers are fully-trained and are always on hand to offer assistance and support to those in need. They respond quickly, providing vital help when major emergencies, road accidents, weather incidents and fires occur. Whatever happens, from setting up an evacuation centre to attending a major accident, they will be ready to respond. In addition to the first aid activities and services that they undertake, St John Ambulance also run a range of community support programmes, which focus on health and social care in the community.
Please, please dig deep into those pockets of yours and think of me on those freezing cold mornings going out for a "jog", braving the elements of UK Winter...
