Story
In 2012 I had treatment for breast cancer at Mount Vernon Hospital. I was so lucky to have the support of my family and friends but was aware this was not the case for everyone. This included lifts to hospital, sitting with me during treatment, providing me and my family with meals, care and love. When I was having radiotherapy I met women who were having to travel great distances, on a daily basis using hospital transport. They would have to spend the majority of the day waiting for treatment or transport whilst on their own. They weren't lucky enough to have the company of a good friend or family member to help pass the time.
The Lynda Jackson Macmillan Information Centre is based at Mount Vernon Hospital and offers support and information to people having cancer treatment and those affected by cancer. It is the volunteers here, of which their are many, who give their time to provide company and comfort to those on their own or those that feel alone at this difficult time. Therefore, I would like to raise money to enable this service to be provided.
