Story
This summer, a group of us; five friends from five different universities, are trekking over 100 miles from Aberfeldy in mid-Scotland, through the Grampian Mountains and over Rannoch Moor to Fort William. The walk will take 10 days in total, and as we're walking over 10 miles every day, climbing mountains, carrying all our own equipment and camping each night it will be a challenge to our endurance.
We have decided to do this to raise money for The Oyster Project. The Oyster Project is a brilliant charity, from our hometown Lewes; it is a charity founded and run by disabled people, which puts on activities, events and workshops throughout the year, initiated by the enthusiasm and skills of the members. What we like best of all about it is that it doesn't isolate and partition off activities just 'for disabled people' but truly reaches out to the entire community and involves anyone and everyone; for example through it's weekly community cafe, radio lewes and community allotment projects.
And finally, whilst completing this walk, we'll also be keeping in our thoughts Brian Hughes, an active Oyster Project member and Lucy and Claire's Grandad, who died this February. He was (and is!) much loved, always enthusiastic to try new activities even, and especially, as he got older, and I'm sure he would be very pleased we were going on 'an adventure'.
