Story

Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have loved running since school and I have been lucky enough to be given a Golden Bond place for Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) in this year’s London Marathon.

One of my best friends sister, Camilla Milbank, had a riding accident last year whilst at work.  As a result Camilla suffered a broken neck and damage to her C6 vertebra and spinal cord.  While she has movement of her arms and wrists and is regaining some movement to her chest and fingers, she has limited sensation, and no movement of her legs and body below the chest.

The many hours of physio and other treatments coupled with her sheer determination and courage is helping her enormously.  However it is harder to predict any long term prognosis and level of recovery for Camilla.  Currently Camilla is at where her family are helping her have weekends away.  The 24-hour care required to do this costs approximately £200 per day and the financial implications long term for Camilla are huge as she plans a full discharge from hospital in early 2010.  This is why I need your help in raising funds for Camilla (and others with similar injuries) to support her and help her lead as comfortable a life as possible.

As I understand it 1,000 people experience a spinal cord injury every year and there an estimated 40,000 spinal cord inured people in the alone.  SIA help those with these injuries and their families come to terms with rebuilding their lives.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

SIA is a wonderful charity and essential for looking after Camilla and all those with spinal cord injuries.

Thank you for your support, I really appreciate it.
