My story
Dearest you
At the eleventh hour I decided I wanted to record a Christmas song.
Originally I was going to give it to you for free; which I would love to do, however I realised that I could be much more useful with this, if I asked you to make a donation for the track, which would then be given straight to charity.
At the time the recent cuts the Government have made, and the strong reaction of the public to this, were all over the news. I was struck by it all, but most strongly by the impact these cuts will have on children in the UK. The figure of an extra 100,000 children living in poverty came out; which I was really saddened by. I felt gutted that kids who have literally no say, no control, and no responsibility for the current financial mess, should suffer.
Then I was struck by how grateful I was for my life. I, like so many people, had a rollercoaster of a childhood, and yet I feel blessed for so many great things I had/have, and the amazing people in my life, and I think it's so important to give to others who are less fortunate when I can.
So, I have chosen to raise money for Barnados. A great charity which helps change and improve the lives of thousands of children all over the UK. Barnados help kids in all kinds of difficult situations from extreme poverty, to sexual exploitation, to situations of domestic violence, and disabilities.
They're doing a great job. And I think we can help them do an even better job by giving them a quid or two.
So, here's 'Silent Night'. I recorded it in a beautiful church in Wick St Lawrence, on the a stormy, very un-silent night!!
