Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page
. I have now completed the London triathlon, in aid of Juconi - thanks to everyone who sponsored so generously.
The tri journey began in January, with training involving: swimming with jellyfish in the Irish Sea (brrr!), speeding down the hills of the Cotswolds by bike (brill!), and running up dust down the red roads of Africa ... it ended in August with 9th place in a time of 51 minutes, then a television interview whilst I was stretching! It was a great day, with fantastic support from family and friends - thank you.
The charity itself, Juconi (http://www.juconi.org.ec/), stands for "junto con los ninos" - in English "together with the children". It is partnered with the charity ICT: as a registered charity, ICT transfer funds raised for Juconi here directly to their account in Ecuador.
Juconi believe in street-working children achieving their potential, and work hard with them to do just that. I have been involved with Juconi since 2002, setting up a sports programme with the kids in Ecuador, teaching English in the neighbourhoods, and fundraising for them in the UK. Through each of these different areas of work I have experienced both the dedication of the Juconi staff, and the will of the children to make a success of themselves. The charity is an inspiration in itself - and being such a small organisation, any donations they receive make a great difference to their work
.
Donating through this JustGiving site has also meant that Juconi receive the money faster, with an extra 28% added to donations from a UK taxpayer at no cost to the donor.
So thanks again - and note this page is open to any more donations until 6th October
. Best, Kath.
