Story
Ever seen me at a gym? In February 2012, I will be RUNNING (or possibly crawling) a marathon IN THE DESERT, to raise money for a dramatherapy project in the Saharawi refugee camps working with the Landmine Victims Centre, the prison and the special needs schools.
So I will be using my experience as a care worker and as an artist to document this process to help raise awareness of the plight of the Saharawi people.
The Saharawi Refugees are the forgotten people of the Western Sahara who have been living in exile in the harsh Algerian desert since 1975. For the past three decades, extremely precarious conditions, lack of medical care and absence of understanding about disability, have created a condition of critical distress among the most vulnerable people in the refugees in the camps. With your generous pledge we aim to pursue an approach dedicated to improving the lives of these vulnerable Saharawi people.
