Vision: A compassionate world where every child can reach their full potential. Mission: To work with others to tackle the injustices of poverty affecting children Registered Charity in Northern Ireland (NIC101412) and The Republic of Ireland (20045517):

Story

Children in Crossfire is an international charity whose philosophy is the empowerment of local communites in 3rd world countries. North and West Housing, which is also a charity provides housing for people throughout Northern Ireland. Both organisations are based in Derry and together they work in partnership to deliver projects in Tanzania and Kenya. Since 2000 North and West have raised £100,000 locally and they have used this money to construct a dam in Makutano in eastern Kenya where they have also built a seed store and a community centre here.

Currently they are building a health clinic in Milwaleni in Tanzania in the foothills of mount Kilimanjiro. When it is finished this april the government will provide two qualified staff to run the facility. The Miwaleni district has a population of around 10,000 people and its connected by dirt roads to the nearest town of Moshi which is some 20 miles away. During the rainy seasons which occur twice a year the roads are impassible with the result that mothers giving birth very often cannot get to a hospital and this is causing a high mortality rate.

North and West and Children in Corssfire are planning a fundraising trip in October 2010 to visit the new health clinic. The money raised will enable a second phase of the project to take place. As a volunteer of Children in Crossfire I am able to go on this trip. When in Tanzania we will visit other projects previously set up by Childern in Crossfire such as the Centre of Excellence for child cancer care, the Huruma School for disabled children. The official opening of the new health clinic will also take place

The money you donate will go to the second phase of the health clinic. The Miwaleni community wish to see a small living area addede onto the health clinic so the workers can stay overnight giving the community 24hour care.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am currently a student at Thornhill college studying for my GCES's June. For my A levels I intend to take chemistry, physics, biology and maths as these subjects will keep the option of studying medicine at university open to me. I am therefore keen to see the work of the new health clinic and the role it plays in saving lives, partcularly those of mothers and children, in Miwaleni
