I decided to take up this challenge to raise money for Hannah Francis's charity and to prove to myself that I can achieve my goals.

In February 2008 I contracted Necrotising Fasciitis, a flesh eating bug, which was eating away at my right leg and abdomen. My body went into septic shock and I was put into an induced coma. To cut a very long story short, I spent about 2 weeks in intensive care and had multiple operations to cut away the affected tissue. At one point they were going to amputate my leg to stop the infection spreading but luckily that didn't happen but I was left with huge open wounds to my leg and abdomen, which I had to have skin grafts to cover. I was in hospital for 3 months in which time I couldn't get out of bed as my legs and the rest of my body were just too weak. Once home I was determined to walk and I managed this with the help of a zimmer frame and then went to crutches and then to a stick. It was a very difficult time and I only got through this with the help of my husband, our 2 small children and great family and friends.

I have ridden since I was 9 years old but never did much competing. After being ill, I thought I would never ride again and it has taken a long time. The first few times I tried it was just too painful, as it was stretching all my scars and skin grafts but I was not going to give in. Three years ago I started having lessons a couple of times a month and so long as I didn't have a wide horse, the pain was not too bad. My daughter, who's horse mad and 13, and I then bought Baz last September, mainly for her to ride but for me to hack out as well. Poor Baz has had her problems, damaging her pelvis somehow so has only being hacking and straight line work until about a month ago when we were given the all clear to jump. She is one of the most loving horses I have ever known and we have built up a great relationship over the last year and she has really improved my confidence and I really trust her. We ended up buying another horse earlier this year and my daughter has claimed him and Baz has ended up being mine.

Joining the wobbleberries seemed the perfect challenge for Baz and me and raising money at the same time for a great cause in memory of Hannah.
