Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page set up in memory of Kathleen Mary Smith.
Those of you visiting this page will be here because you knew Kathleen and perhaps want to mark her passing by making a donation to the Paget's Association. Kathleen actually died of a chest infection but during her last twenty five years she struggled bravely with the increasing pain of arthritis accompanied by Paget's disease, a chronic bone disorder.
After managing at home with the help of carers for six months she moved into The Red House Nursing Home in May, 2009 where she was looked after with great dignity and humour by a wonderful team. She never lost the twinkle in her eye and just before she died she asked about her budgie, Bluey, and her last words were "are the children alright?"
The pain that Paget's disease inflicted on Kathleen was difficult for her to endure and even more difficult for her family to observe. We hope that donations in lieu of flowers will in some small way contribute to the research that may eventually help find a cure for this debilitating disease.
Thank you from all the Smith Family
