Thank you for visiting my page and donating money for Verity and their work with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome!
PCOS is relatively unknow and yet affects millions of women with far reaching affects such as:
- excessive body hair
- infertility
- weight gain
- acne
- hair loss from the head.
There is no cure although the individual symptoms can be treated.
Verity is a great charity, working to support women effected by PCOS, encourage research, improve the quality of and access to available treatments and promoting a deeper understanding and awarness of the condition.
Verity is funded almost entirely from donations and therefore every penny that can be raised is vital for supporting their ongoing work!
The campaign to raise money is focussing on the social stigma around women's body hair, and issue particularly relevant to those with PCOS given excess body hair is a common symptom.
"Armpits4August will provide a stimulus and safe space to discuss women’s often complicated, emotional, or embarrassing experience of body hair. We believe the shame a lot of women feel about their body hair is a consequence of living in a society that regulates, controls and dictates that women’s bodies must conform to incrediblynarrow beauty standards. This creates a physically, socially, and mentally damaging image of what is ‘natural’ – an image that turns out to be no more than an idea. There is no standard, universal, typical – let alone ‘normal’ – pattern of body hair for women."
