Hi - thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well we did it! And it certainly lived up to its reputation for being tough. It was raining heavily in the morning so eveyone was drenched before the start of the race. Waiting 20 minutes at the start line in Nant Peris for all 2000 competitors to arrive didn't exactly help! Once the race was underway the rain stopped and soon we were clocking up the miles. The route was extremely challenging, with the first climb to the top of the Llanberis Pass at 1100ft getting everyone nicely warmed up!
After this is was downhill for several miles, which was surprisingly just as difficult as going uphill! It was then undulating to Beddgelert (200ft), continuing along the A4085 to Waunfawr. From there (21 miles) was a rapid climb to about 1,200ft at Bwlch y Groes and then the final 2 miles downhill to the finish in Llanberis. I managed to complete the course in 4 hrs 15 minutes, which I am very pleased with, all things considered. Steve finished in a very respectable 4 hrs 9 minutes - I will beat him next time!
It was a very memorable experience - and I hope to go back again, not only to try and break the 4 hour mark, but to hopefully run the race on a clear, sunny day to fully appreciate the stunning scenery which unfortunately was hiding away behind the rain clouds!
