Story

Hi there!

Thank you for visiting Kath's Crew  fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor our team online.

As you might know, our mum Kath lost her brave fight with colon cancer on 11th June 2010 and we all want to do something positive in her memory which would make her proud of us all and also to demonstrate how much we love and miss her. So this is our attempt at our own mini marathon!

Our dad, Phil, said he would like us to raise some money for the Ellenor Lions Hospice in Kent. They are based in Dartford and provide a team of Specialist Nurses at Darent Valley Hospital where mum was admitted. These nurses give specialist advice and support for adults, and their families, who have been admitted to hospital with cancer and other progressive, life limiting illnesses. The nurses provided some really helpful caring tips and made changes to Kath's drug regime which made her last few days more comfortable. The Ellenor Lions Hospice also provides specialist care at home with regular contact by Nurse Specialists and Doctors to assess and address the patient and carers needs and problems. Their team also helped put together recommendations for a care package at home for mum. They are sometimes an "overlooked" charity who can desperately do with some financial support and were there for our family when we needed them.

Mum and Dad also enjoyed many a fine afternoon at their tea shop which sells the best cup of tea and home made cakes in Dartford - so it's a charity with many happy memories too.

Why the British 10k London Run? Well it gives us the chance of running past some wonderful London landmarks in July, pretend we are athletes and hopefully not collapse in the process of raising some money for charity. Mum also knows the route well as she was there on the Embankment a couple of years ago cheering on Angela and Malcolm when they ran for the Missing Persons charity. We'll be on the look out for her in her pink dufflecoat as we pass under the the Hungerford and Golden Jubliee bridges near Embankment on the day. We are sure she'll be there in spirit shouting, clapping and cheering us on.
