Some of you may or may not know that last year my mum was diagnosed with having breast cancer. She is hopefully on the mend and just has a few more mountains to climb herself but is (fingers crossed) well on the road to recovery. A few years previously her sister also had breast cancer and is soon to be getting the all clear. Such amazing recoveries could not have been possible without the huge effort put into cancer research often funded by charitable donations.
As a result of these experiences with this awful disease I decided to do something to raise money for the Genesis Appeal cancer charity. It is a Manchester based charity that my mum's consultant was instrumental in setting up and promotes the benefits of early diagnosis (a significant factor in my mum's speedy recovery), and puts great effort into prevention and finding possible causes of cancer.

So, to cut a very long story short, I decided to climb my own mountain to show support for my mum and raise money for this worthy charity. At the end of February I will do the 16 day trek in Nepal to Everest Base Camp. I have been told to expect temperatures of down to -25 degrees, biting winds, VERY basic accommodations (I dread to think about the toilets...or lack thereof!), altitude sickness and extreme tiredness. I do think this trek will be a challenge like which I have never experienced before - however, I am looking forward to it very much and just hope that I can raise some money for Genesis in the process.
