Story

Hii everyonee :)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR VISITING MY FUNDRAISING PAGE :)

Please be aware, my swim is not on the 1st June as this website may suggest, its the 14TH JULY 2010!!! (also my 18th birthday!!)

Unfortunatley, in the past week, my friend passed away after battling with this terminal illness. On the 27th April 2010, he left us all after only 19 years. I will miss him, as will a lot of people. Chris had such an infectious smile and a very positive manner, I can only say I was happy to know him and to have had him be part of my life.

I am still doing this swim after being inspired by him, so please donate whatever you can! Cancer takes the lives of so many people, young or old and the money rased will help research into cancer and even a cure for it.

Chris Pitt - rest in peace xx

So this is my story...

In the year of 2008, a close friend was diagnosed with Leukaemia at the age of 18. All my life he'd been there, pretty much part of the family. Whether it was weekends, after school or even going on holiday, he was there especially in our earlier years.

Seeing such a close frend go through this after having aspirations after univeristy is what led me to make the decision that I wanted to do something good to raise money for Christies where he was treated.

I went through many ideas, reaserching things to do as a fundraiser but none of them I really wanted to do until one of my friends said to swim the English Channel. From that point, I knew the thing I would do would be swimming based.

I looked into swimming the English Channel and found numerous reasons why I couldn't do it such as :

1. It's about £3000

2. Im not covering myself in grease!
3. About 600 ships cross it daily making it dangerous
4. Less than 10% success rate
5. Jelly fish and raw sewage etc!

Consequently, I decided to still swim 22 miles which is the same distance as the English Channel but in a Swimming Pool. At my local swimming pool which is 50m long, it would be 704 lengths, and around 16 hours to complete it!!

I want to do this not only to raise money, but as a challenge for myself.

I hope to raise around £2000 by doing this so please do donate money!

The money raised will go straight to Christies Hospital and help fund more facilities and inevitably helping to find a cure for Cancer.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Christie's gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
