Story
Three years ago on Fathers Day, Shaun was tragically attacked in our first home together in Benfleet. It happened during the early hours of Sunday 21 June 2009. It, unbelievably, was a “friend” of ours who repeatedly hit my husband over the head with Shaun’s work shovel, which was left in our porch, enough times until Shaun could no longer speak, stand nor respond.
He was rushed to Basildon Hospital when the ambulance arrived, and was later transferred to a specialised Neuro Unit at Queens Hospital, Romford. After an excruciating length of days and nights, I stayed by Shaun’s side at the hospital, unknowing of his fate. Some days were good, others terrifying. Thankfully, after fantastic treatment in the Neuro Unit, and after several operations, one including treatment for a severe brain infection , and also a skull restructure on the left side, he was able to come home.
August 28 2010 Shaun and I got married at Rayleigh Baptist Church, and the following July 2 I gave birth to our beautiful son Kyle.
The man who attacked my husband will be released from prison in the up and coming months and I have had an overwhelming feeling that I want to try and “repay” the Neuro Unit at Queen’s Hospital by raising some money for them. Now, here is where I really hope that you can help me/us.
On Sunday 8 July 2012 (in approx 7 weeks!!) I plan to shave off all of my hair in order to raise lots and lots of money for the hospital.
You can also find the Evening Echo website in which Shaun’s story was originally printed. (Some of the information slightly incorrect!):
Please please please help me raise as much money as I can in order to Thank the Neuro Unit at Queens for their hard work in order to save my husband.
Without them, I would not have my husband, my beautiful baby Kyle and the life we are currently living today!!
THANK YOU!!! Katie xxx
