1 in 3 of us will get cancer during our lifetime. That is a scary statistic and many of us have had cancer touch our lives already, whether it be ourselves, our family or our friends.

The Royal Marsden is at the forefront of cancer research to prevent and develop treatments for cancer as well as finding ways to make treatments more manegable and bearable for sufferers.

We are at a turning point in the fight against cancer, cures for many cancers will be found within our lifetime but this requires huge investment and commitment.

Each year I try and do my bit by raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign by taking part in the Wimbledon Village Stables Sponsored ride. I have to be honest, this does not involve much sacrifice on my part but over the last 4 years I have raised over £3,600 and in the 36 years it has been running the ride has raised over £500,000 thanks to the generosity of people like you.

This year, I take part in the ride in memory of my friend Jo, who sadly lost her battle with cancer at the age of 32. I hope that by raising funds for this amazing cause more people can win against cancer. I know the devastation this disease causes in sufferers and their families and by continuing to fund research we can today and tomorrow's sufferers hope.
