Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon this October for Campaign for Female Education (Camfed). This is my first ever distance run, so I'm going to need all the motivation I can get to keep from collapsing! Knowing that I’m raising money for such a good cause should help to keep me motivated!
Since 1993 Camfed has been working to alleviate poverty and fight HIV/AIDS in rural Africa by helping young girls through primary and secondary education and supporting their economic independence with grants and loans after they leave school. Having grown up taking education for granted, I believe this is a really good cause and a great way to promote long-term change.
Women in the Camfed Alumni network are now effecting change themselves, acting as peer health educators and supporting the next generation of children born into poverty. In 2007, 7,400 Camfed Alumni were supporting over 23,500 boys and girls through school.
Rural African girls who have the opportunity to go to school:
- earn up to 25% more and reinvest 90% of that into their families
- are 3 times less liekly to be HIV positive
- are 40% more likely to live beyond the age of 5.
So please dig deep and donate now!
