Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Katie's memorial page.
My daughter, Katie Fay Connell (nee Wickham) died on the 20th November 2009, 21 months after being diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. She had had the disease for much longer, but was undiagnosed as the symptoms are easily dismissed as something else, and her GP wasn't enquiring enough. She is much younger than most women who get the disease, which is another reason why she was not diagnosed until she was operated on to remove "a cyst". The date of her diagnosis is etched in my mind, from the moment she uttered the words "it's cancer - boo!"
Those of you who knew Katie also know that she was a truly special person. She was funny, caring, creative, opinionated, loving and strong.
She has left us a legacy of another special person, Jack Connell. He will be loved and cherished by all close to him.
I ask that you remember Katie as you knew her best, and in her memory you give a donation to Ovacome, the charity that supports ovarian cancer sufferers in the UK. Katie would have been 30 on 15th May 2010, so this page will be available until the end of May for donations.
Donating through JustGiving is totally secure. They won't send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
