Leeds Half Marathon 2014 · 11 May 2014 ·
We are attempting to run the Leeds Half Marathon (13.1 miles, including hills that can only be described as small mountains) for Breast Cancer Campaign. They need £100m in the next decade to find a cure and overcome Breast Cancer by 2050.
Emma Gannon’s Mum Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer before Christmas at the age of 47. She has been incredibly lucky to have been diagnosed early. Routine mammograms are now being carried out randomly on ladies in the 47- 50 age range as a part of a trial.
Having led a healthy lifestyle, the news shocked us. Sarah is now in the process of receiving treatment from the wonderful staff at St James's Hospital in Leeds and with the support of close friends and family (& the occasional glass of wine) she is staying incredibly strong and positive.
There are lots of people who have experienced first-hand the effect of this horrible disease. Breast Cancer Campaign are a charity that are committed to working towards a cure and ways to overcome it. For that reason we couldn’t think of a better charity to run for.
Please bear in mind this is not going to be a fun experience for us, we don't actually enjoy running, we kind of hate it. We are really great at being able to come up with great excuses of why not to go for a run... but we are putting ourselves up to the challenge, as breast cancer will not be overcome if we don't go out of our way to fight it. All we need is your support (and prayers that we make it to the finish line without crying/passing out/dying).
We can’t thank you enough for your kind donations, we really appreciate it.
P.s. Go for your routine mammogram appointments and check yourself regularly, happy boob fondling xxxxxxxx
