WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Only by tackling these three essentials in ways that last can people change their lives for good.

Story

Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene should be a normal part of everyone’s daily life. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives. With all three, they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good. With clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, children are born healthier. They get the chance to go to school and grow up to become adults. Women and men get to earn a living. Whole communities start to thrive. It sounds normal and it should be.

In August of 2018, I will be joining a team of 99 HSBC colleagues globally to trek 100km over 5 days deep in the Arctic Circle across Greenland to raise money for WaterAid. We will be trekking through the least densely populated territory in the world across multiple terrains such as tundra and glaciers. With no access to typical facilities, we will be carrying our own equipment and camping gear for 5 days, sleeping rough in the middle of nowhere, in order to bring awareness and raise money for such an important cause.
