It is now a year since Katrina died, and we feel her loss as keenly as ever.The generous donations you have made have already helped an Ecuadorean orphanage, were Katrina worked last year, to be rebuilt and equipped with one room named ‘Sala Katrina’.
The money donated for the World Land Trust is to be used to build an Interpretation and Visitor Centre at Yanacocha National Nature Reserve outside Quito, Ecuador. This reserve is being extended and reafforested, and is visited by many local and international travellers. The centre will spread the message about restoration of the area around the reserve and the need to conserve whole habitats. Building is due to start later this year
Katrina had been working and travelling in South America before starting her career as a Chemical Engineer in July 2010. She died on 16th May 2010. She had spent her last six weeks trekking in the mountains and jungle of Ecuador and Peru. She was amazed at the birds, flowers, wildlife and culture she encountered.

The World Land Trust raises funds for urgent land purchase and protection of critically threatened habitats in South America which would otherwise have been lost. World Land Trust works with its overseas project partners, who ultimately own the land, to create permanent nature reserves protected for their biodiversity.
Their patron is Sir David Attenborough. WLT has been in existence for over 20 years and has, so far, managed to save over 400,000 acres of tropical forests and other habitats.
