Story

Just to let you all know "WE DID IT"!! I am very pleased to confirm that both myself and Simon managed to complete the full 23 mile walk on Saturday, despite the horrible weather at the beginning of the day and my chest infection the previous week! We left QA Hospital at 09:30am and returned at 6:00pm. The NICU nurses were waving us off from the windows of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the press were there for the group shot. I am very pleased to say there were no mishaps or injury related stories to tell - it was a long day, but there were lots of personal memories to spur us on, along with positive thoughts of how the money could help the Unit, the babies and the brilliant staff. Before we knew it, we were back again! We had friends and family meet us at various points along the way and even met a fish along the seafront (see pic!). Some of the nurses came outside to greet us upon our return and balloons were let off as we arrived back to QAH. We ached a little (still do), but it's wearing off!

The full details are in the local paper:

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/health/local-health/parents-raise-32-000-for-queen-alexandra-hospital-unit-in-memory-of-their-son-1-3591301

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!! xx

The walk has been organised by parents who very sadly lost their little boy at just over 3 months old on NICU, QAH. He is the inspiration behind their reason for fundraising and they are now ambassadors for the Charity 'Ickle Pickles', who collectively raise money for Neonatal Units throughout the UK. NICU, QAH have already confirmed that they plan to buy a Cooling Unit with the proceeds, which helps newborn babies who are at risk due to oxygen deprivation by using a whole body cooling treatment - "therapeutic hypothermia". The following link gives further details on the Charity itself and the walk I am participating in:

http://www.icklepickles.org/Appeals/Appeal/Queen-Alexandra-Hospital.html

"On a personal level, I would like to dedicate my walk in memory of Harrison, one of Jacob's friends on NICU at QAH, who will be remembered every step of the way."

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
