London to Brighton Bike Ride 2015 · 6 September 2015 ·

Papyrus is a young person’s suicide prevention charity. That means we provide urgent support, education, campaigns and conversations that keep children and young people safe from suicide. And above all else, we’re here. We’re always here. That’s how we save lives.

Story

On 8th October 2014, my dear friend’s daughter Anna took her own life aged just 19.

Anna lived her all-too-short life to the full; leaving lasting memories for those who knew her.  She was there for others and often put their needs before her own.  She made her mark in her own unique way and not a day goes by when her quirkiness is not missed in some way.

Katy and Sophie are also cycling in memory of   5 other  friends of of our family who died by suicide – Rupert, Rosie, Elliot and Georgia, as well as (a not so young) Simon. Each of them are also dearly missed.

We also hope to raise awareness of some of the issues that young people face as well as the support that can be available to see them through the difficult times.

Anna's Cycling Crew is a mixed group of cyclists; family and friends of varying skills - one person didn't even have a bike when they signed up to do the ride!

We are all taking part in the ride because of one person - Anna.
As well as us, the crew is made up of: Caroline (Anna’s mum) Juliette (Anna's auntie), Tom (Anna's brother), and friends of both Anna and myself: Abbie, Annette, Keith, Will, Frann, Jane,  and Clare - a fantastic group of people - prepared to put themselves through this experience to remember a special young woman.

So we cycle in memory of Anna, Rupert, Rosie, Elliot , Georgia, and Simon. We hope that our small contribution will help Papyrus continue the work that is doing.

We are fund-raising  for Papyrus as it exists to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives by shattering the stigma around suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognize and respond to suicidal behaviour.

We support their belief that:

many young suicides are preventable

no young person should suffer alone with thoughts or feelings of hopelessness

no one should have to go through the heartbreak of losing a loved one to suicide

everyone can play a role in preventing young suicide.
