FUNDRAISING UPDATE!

For such a good cause and for Mike showing his commitment by chewing a super-hot chilli for 30seconds, Robert Wiseman Dairies were happy to donate £200 to each of the 5 trekkers - Good Luck!

=========================================================================

For those that know me well, it may come as a shock to you that I have decided to take up a challenge as great as climbing Kilimanjaro. Commonly asked questions, so far, have been- “Do you know that there are no bars or pubs on the way up?”, “You realise you won’t have anywhere to plug in your hair straighteners?” and my personal favourite, “Will you have your make-up in your day pack?”. The answer to all of these questions, is yes, by the way.

I leave on the 7 August to climb the largest free standing mountain in the world, which (after signing up for this trek), I have been told is a rather scary 15,092 ft high. So, I have 6 months to get myself in shape, buy my kit (apparently my standard Nike trainers and tracksuit won’t suffice) and see my doctor to ensure that a medicine exists to prevent the severe allergic reactions that I have to mosquito bites. I also have 6 months to raise £2250- which is where you guys come in...

Starting in the rainforests of Lemosho Glades I will head upwards towards Shira Plateau. From here I will catch a glimpse of my goal - Kibo, Kilimanjaro’s main ice-capped peak. I will continue via the beautiful Southern Flank, Barranco Wall and – whilst all the time trying to forget that this is a dormant volcano that could potentially smother me in lava at any moment.

The challenge I face however, is nothing compared to the families whose children suffer from cancer. The “KidsCan” Children’s Cancer Research Centre is working hard to promote and support research into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure of cancers in children. No other charity researches into specifically children’s cancers which makes their work both unique and vital. With your help it can make the future brighter for children with cancer.

I would be very grateful if you could find it in your heart to sponsor me and as such support the fantastic work ‘KidsCan’ continue to do.

If you've never heard of KidsCan, watch this short film.
