Hello!

 

Thank you for visiting my 'justgiving' page.

 

On 27th October, I set sail from Rio de Janeiro for 2 legs of a round-the-world yacht race - heading for Fremantle (Australia) & calling in at Cape Town en route. I'll be joined by 17 other amateur sailors, under the command of one very brave (foolish?) skipper & together we'll take on some of the most exciting & challenging seas on the planet.

I'm using this opportunity to raise money for, & awareness of, Christians Against Poverty. The name may conjure visions of well-building & goat-buying, but CAP is a National debt counselling service offering practical help, solutions & most importantly, real hope to people in the UK caught in the cycle of debt. Founded in 1996, it has been steadily expanding across the UK; I believe it's a truly radical combination of grace & real financial talent & provides a desperately needed alternative to other routes out of financial difficulty.

 

I only need to talk to people 5 minutes from my door & I know that CAP's expertise is needed in my area too - I am supporting CAP's vision for at least one debt counselling centre in every major town/city by 2021. I love to hear from CAP clients that the moment a CAP counsellor arrived at their home to share the burden of their debt & anxiety is the moment that hope was restored & they began to feel alive - it's the feeling of freedom & being alive that I sail for, but I don't think it's exclusively available in the middle of the Southern Ocean! I believe that everyone in the UK struggling with debt should have the option to turn to an organisation which provides sustained support & enables them to feel free once again in their own homes & lives.
