Story
Almost 1 year ago I made a decision to 'Get Fit'. It began with a short run that I couldnt complete without stopping for breath or getting cramp... it must have been less than a mile! I am now training for the Reading Half Marathon 2013!
I have decided to raise money for the charity I work for, CRI. Yes, I do this for my career but it is also a charity which is close to my heart. who I believe trully make a difference to peoples lives.
CRI is a health and social care charity working with individuals, families and communities in who are affected by drugs, alcohol, crime, homelessness, domestic abuse and antisocial behaviour.
Our projects, delivered in communities and prisons, encourage and empower people to regain control of their lives and motivate them to tackle their problems. We instil the aspiration that everyone can change, and we don’t want people to depend on us any longer than they have to.
We are looking to raise funds to take our service users on a confidence and self esteem building day trip. Confidenceand self esteem is important in every aspect of our lives, yet so many people struggle to find it. Individuals who struggle with self confidence find it hard to find happiness away from their addictions.
There is a close relationship between low self esteem and addiction. Getting trapped in a downward spiral of addiction means that the person suffers further blows to their feelings of self worth. If the individual is to have any hope of breaking away from this self destructive behaviour for good, they will need to begin rebuilding their self esteem and self confidence.
In order for people to build a good life in recovery, it is vital that they are able to rebuild their self confidence to achieve their goals and aspirations in life.
