BHS Viking Riding Challenge - Iceland · 15 August 2010

Here for horses and the people who care for them. We make riding safer, champion the welfare of horses, protect off-road riding routes, encourage participation, and increase education and understanding around horses. Together, let’s protect what we love.

Story

'A challenge not to be missed and never to be forgotten. Discover the land of snow, fire and fantasy. Ford glacial rivers before riding through fields of ashes and lava from Mt.Hekla erruptions. Strong and fleet of foot, the horses never tire; up hill and down, across moors and bogs, forging fast-flowing rivers and racing along flat sands.'

Upon hearing this I was well and truly sold! I quickly signed up with my parter in crime (lovely mum) to take part in the 2010 Viking Riding Challenge to raise funds for the welfare department of the British Horse Society.  This is going to be one heck of an endurance test - each day we will spend around 7 hours in the saddle riding up to 50km on at least 2-3 horses, phew! I'd better start training now then, Queenie's not going to know what's hit her : )

BHS Welfare aims to prevent cases of cruelty and neglect through education. This is achieved through its network of welfare volunteers, advisory literature on issues such as ragwort awareness, and a team of experienced and dedicated staff who give advice and guidance to horse owners on a wide range of topics. I promise to be as inventive as possible over the coming year in terms of fundraising and would welcome any ideas (however crazy!) but in the meantime please, please dig deep and sponser me online.

ps yes that includes you, even if you are a poor student, no exuses : P
