Keith and Hellen's Walk for ME

Walk for ME 2014 · 12 May 2015
My wife and I are doing a sponsored walk across the north Downs in Kent on Sunday 11th May 2014. We are doing this walk for my son, Luke, who has had ME for over 5 years and we wish he could do it with us.
ME is a terrible illness, and at present not enough is understood about its origins, the extent to which it can affect someone and certainly there is there is no simple medicinal cure.
It is important therefore to seek ways to raise money for ME research. For us, it is particularly important because we have seen what this illness can do to someone we love and care for. Until a few years ago my son had a successful career in accountancy, engaged regularly in many sports, and most of all enjoyed family life, and especially the outdoors, to the full.
Over the past five years we have watched this horrid illness eat into, and take away, every aspect of his life and although the fun loving Luke is still there we only see it in glimpses and for short periods. Now for much of the time he is either too weak, in pain or too tired to do much more than to look after himself.
One thing Luke is never going to do is give up and this is the second year he and his friends have set up and organised this event “Walk for ME”. We are doing this walk because we are proud of his courage and we wish to help raise funds so that some meaningful and long term research can be planned and carried out that hopefully will bring answers to doctors and ultimately relief for the many sufferers of ME.
