My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To “celebrate” 10 years running marathons I am doing London in April but this year I aim to RUN TO London and then complete the Marathon. The route will start on Tyneside and will be mainly on cycle paths and quiet roads and will finish outside the Olympic stadium a total of over 330 miles and will be raising money for the British Lung Foundation.

In January 2002 my father was diagnosed with a terminal Lung condition and I contacted the BLF to help raise money and they offered me the chance to run the London Marathon. It had been a long time since I did any running but I thought that I would have a lot of time to train and it would be the ultimate challenge. Unfortunately my Father died just 5 days before the run but I still completed and raised over £4000.

A recent report suggested a great variation in median survival times between various types of cancer, with lung cancer still being shown as having one of the worst prognoses of any type of cancer. The findings showed that the survival rate has improved from 2 months in 1971/72 to only five months now.

I found the information in this report to be terribly true when my Mother died of the disease in 2009.

Any donations you give will be greatly appreciated and if you could please pass on my event to your family and friends to help with my challenge.

Many thanks, Keith
