2017 Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon · 24 September 2017 ·
Hi,
My father died of brain cancer at the age of 41. When he was just five years old he lost his mother to the same devastating disease. She was just 28.
As painful as it is to lose a parent to this terrible disease that can rob people of their mind as well as their body, I cannot begin to imagine how hard it would be to lose a child to brain cancer.
Yet more children die of brain tumours than any other type of cancer and survival rates UK children are among the lowest in Europe.
The Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham are performing vital research to enable better, and earlier, diagnoses, and more effective treatments.
Please support me as I attempt to run my first ever half marathon, the Robin Hood half marathon in Nottingham, to support this fantastic charity. I'll be running as part of the 'UofN500' team…500 staff, students, and alumni from the University of Nottingham (where I did my PhD).
At the time of writing, I have never run more than 7 miles, so I still have some training to do to get ready!
