Story

Hi all... I can't even quite believe I am going to say this let alone do this... BUT, I am off to climb Kilimanjaro next August and I will be being spurred on by a beautiful angel of a girl that some of you may have had the pleasure of knowing, Miss Sarah Groves..

Anyone that knows will know that I quite like walking but thats as far as my exersise regeme goes.. and anybody that knows me really well will know (I say this not because I am proud but because it is true) that I also like smoking, the occasional glass or five of wine & am also partial to some late nights.. My lifestyle has never involved much exersise & even with having a free gym membership for over 4 years I can count the amount if times i have used it on 1 hand.. so as you can imagine this is going to be a massive challenge!! I am going to need all the support I can get!

Any donation to make this insanity a reality, no matter how small, will be appriciated more than you know.. This, i'm sure, will be one of the most, if not thee most challenging adventures of my life & I am praying I will succeed with your help..

Sarah was a great friend to me (& to so many) and I can't think of a nicer way to keep her memory alive.. it combines beauty, fitness, strength & courage.. & we all know Sarah had an abundance of all 4 so I am hoping to make both her & myself proud by doing this..

I will keep everyone updated on my fitness (or lack there of) and how well I am coping with training etc along with a promise to make a journal or all my ups and downs along the way, I am currently thinking of something weird & wonderful that I can do to boost momentum of support.. maybe a weird hair style, dress in some crazy colours for each day of the treck.. it's a brain-storm in progress but I will keep you all posted..

Please share my page or send me some ideas, this is such a worthy cause & even though I am pretty scared about it I just can't wait to get this show n the road.. BRING ON THE CHALLENGE!

BIG BIG LOVE TO YOU ALL :) xxx

Sarah's inspirations in life came from children, art, fitness and adventure and a Memorial Fund has been established in Guernsey to support these four things.  It has full Trust status and is administered by the Guernsey Community Foundation www.foundation.gg

Funds allocated to Children will provide facilities, experiences and opportunities to young persons under the age of 16 that would otherwise be out of their reach financially or from an organisational perspective.  In many cases participants will come from deprived backgrounds both locally and overseas. Funds allocated to Art will provide educational experiences, opportunities and equipment to young persons under the age of 21 that would otherwise be out of their reach financially or organisationally. 20% of funds available within this category go towards an art bursary at Sarah’s school in Ascot where she spent 7 very happy years and where they still have very fond memories of her. Income will be generated by Adventure and Fitness (for example, people running marathons or going on expeditions).

This Memorial Fund represents Sarah and her inspirational philosophy of life.

Any donations are warmly welcomed, and thank you so much for your kindness and support! I will be paying a part of the travel and accomodation costs, and some of the money I fundraise will go towards the rest, but over 50% of money raised is purely for the Fund, which means that as a group we hope to raise, after all expenses, over £50,000!!! Which will be incredible for the Fund!
