Oxford to Cambridge · 27 September 2009

We’re the 10 million people living with arthritis in the UK. The carers, researchers and healthcare professionals. The family, friends and fundraisers. United by a clear vision: a future free from arthritis. One in which no one is limited by the pain, fatigue and isolation that arthritis can cause.

Story

About two months ago I took my son Ollie to the doctors with sore hands, a week and a half later I sat with him at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford being told by a consultant that he had Rheumatoid Arthritis in both hands, wrists, fingers and left ankle. My heart sunk and I started to cry at the thought of my son being inhibited by this condition for the rest of his life, when I looked at Ollie he too was crying and at that point I realised I was mummy and I had to stop my tears and focus on fighting this condition for my sons sake. With the help of drugs and physio Ollie could lead a normal life so this was what I was focusing on - putting him into remission.

Ollie now has weekly jabs of Methotrexate, fortnightly physio, monthly bloods and 4 monthly eye tests which he is not happy about as you can imagine but it is something that is going to become part of this seven year olds life unless a break through is found with research.

This is why I am cycling Oxford to Cambridge on Sunday 27th September 09 to Raise money for the Arthritis Research Campaign in the hope that one day Ollie will be able to lead a life with no drugs and no pain.

Please sponsor me to complete this 89 mile cycle and / or join me, team members can be added at any point!  - 3 new team members on day one !!
