This summer I am going to Moldova to help run a camp for underprivileged children. Moldova is a country that is often unheard of, nestled between Romania and the Ukraine. It’s the poorest country in Europe, and its women and children are among the most trafficked people in the world. Shockingly, an estimated 25 per cent of children are living without their parents and are at high risk of unemployment and falling prey to prostitution and forced labour.
Why am I going?
This year the camp was going to be cancelled, because there weren’t enough people and resources to run it. The thought of that was a strong enough motivation for me to take up the challenge of running a camp for around 120 vulnerable children, aged 7-14 – something I’ve never done before! We’ll be helping and supporting the Salvation Army in Moldova. They are the ones who already have a relationship with the kids and will continue to do so once the camp ends.
Please help
To cover the running costs of the camp and the flight to get there, I need to raise £1,200. Here’s a cost breakdown:
£325 Board/lodging and in country land costs
£6: Food en route
£520: Air travel costs
£30: Insurance
£139: Contingency funds
£180: Admin fee
Please give as much as you can. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Global Action UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, this will make your gift worth almost a third more. So if you give £20, for example, Global Action will actually get £25.60. How cool is that?!
One more thing
If you need a little bit more convincing before choosing to give, watch this video. It's nine and half minutes long, but it gives a real insight into the situation in Moldova: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvOdeg5hw-0
So while I brush up on my games, crafts and Russian skills, I’d love it if you would consider sponsoring me.
Thank you!
