My story

“You must be crazy. Your first marathon at your age!!” That’s probably what you’re thinking right now. And you're probably right. My wife thinks that I’m absolutely barking! So why am I doing it?

I went to support my son Ryan when he ran the 2011 London Marathon and I was overwhelmed by the excitement of the crowds and the effort being put in by so many people running their hearts out for good causes. The atmosphere, as I tube hopped around London, was absolutely incredible. So when Ryan asked me if I would like to run with him in 2012 I just couldn’t resist. (I doubt that I’ll be able to keep up with him but he’s promised to carry me over the line if he has to!)

We’re both running for The Lord’s Taverners, a charity that does a huge amount “giving young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance.”

Doubtless, over the next few months, on April 22 and for a few days after, I am going to feel a lot of pain. But it will be nothing compared to the pain, both physical and psychological, that is felt for long periods of time by the children that The Lord’s Taverners help. So please dig deep. Any amount, no matter how small, will help me to help the Taverners to help those very special children.

I really appreciate your support and those children will really appreciate our help.
