Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. You may be aware that a little over a year ago I was involved In a serious road traffic accident on the M6. You may also know that Alan Bullock, a dear friend and colleague of mine tragically lost his life in the same accident. I suffered life threatening injuries and it is proving a long and challenging road to recovery. In the past I have taken part in three Macmillan cycle challenges with my pal Dr Paul Kelsey and we have raised over £70,000 for the very deserving cause that Macmillan support. I have decided (perhaps foolishly) to participate in a final challenge and I have done this for three reasons. Firstly I have been told and believe that I have been spared to do some good and make my continued existence meaningful. Secondly this is a test to see if I can push my recovery to the fitness levels I previously enjoyed. Finally and more importantly I would like to do this in memory of Alan, to make his untimely and tragic loss translate into something tangible and positive. Alan was a generous family man and a keen supporter and promoter of charities that help less fortunate people. It is with this in mind that I am driven to do this final effort to raise money for this worthy cause whilst I still can. The challenge is to cycle 508 kilometres from the Golden Temple of Amritsar to Shimla, the former summer capital of British India. The trip will guarantee gruelling climbs and hairy descents in Western Himalaya. As with previous challenges this will be no holiday, again there will be rough camping with minimal water for washing and no toileting luxuries. Also like before the biggest challenge for me is raising over £4,000 for the privilege of being cold, wet, dirty and exhausted.
