WE MADE IT!!!!!! Thanks to everyone who donated..we got to Duntulm yesterday morning (Saturday 30th April). What can we say except..that was the hardest thing we have ever done by a long way! If it hadn't have been for the good weather and Cassie's aqua packs I think we would have chucked it.
On 23rd April 2011 myself and Gordon Liddell will set off to walk the entire length of the Isle of Skye from Armadale in the south to Duntulm in the north. The route was first walked by a David Paterson who wrote the book "A long walk on the Isle of Skye" which I bought in 1999. I have wanted to walk the 77 mile route ever since. This year I was trying to think of a way to raise funds for the childrens hospital in Aberdeen where my young nephew is being treated, and so I had the idea of finally doing the walk and raising money for "The ARCHIE Foundation" in the process.
The Archie foundation is a charity which is making a real difference to the lives of children who need medical care in the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital or in their own community. You can go to their website where you will find much more information about what they do.
The money that you donate will go straight to fund a specialist nurse to provide an enhanced level of pain management for local children and to provide in-house training for existing staff. This service is not a 'core' function of the NHS but will make a huge difference for local children with chronic pain problems. The specialist nurse will also 'up-skill' the other nurses so that all the children get an even better level of care. You can make a real difference by donating to support this appeal.
So, I hope you can help Gordon and I reach the target figure. The walk will be a long slog but I'm sure we'll make it! It'll give us great satisfaction to know that the money raised will help to improve the care.
Thank you
Kenny
