Thanks for taking the time to visit. As you are here you probably know me but if not here is my story.

I am one of those people who thought healthy eating was choosing Fish & Chips instead of Kebab and Chips. This is probably why I ended up at 26½ Stone in June 2010. In fact I was so heavy I had to special lardy boy scales. The only exercise I had done in the 16 years up to the point was lifting a pint glass to my mouth repeatedly on a Friday and Saturday night. In fact someone who I have not seen since high school in 1993 left the following comment on my Facebook - "Did you swallow a planet?" (Shaggy you owe me sponsorship for that one!)

This is why I am the last person anyone would think would run a half marathon.

It is just over a year later and I have lost 9½ Stone - do the maths I am still a lardy boy - and I am bloody well running one. I will be speeding (shuffling) from Newcastle to South Shields on 18th September in the Great North Run. I have had to put a lot of effort put into training for this as my natural state is sitting in my boxer shorts watching TV and eating pies, not running the streets at odd hours of the day. As you are on a Just Giving Page you must have guessed by now, I am not doing this for me and I need your support.

One of my nephews has a rare genetic disease called Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA) which causes bone marrow to produce little or no red blood cells. To manage the condition he has to have regular blood transfusions and steroid therapy for life. Click their link on the left for more info.

I have already made £300 and will shortly post the running tights pictures but as an added incentive I will present my Pub Quiz in the Star Bar in Edinburgh DRESSED AS A MONKEY if I hit £500 by the start of the race!
