Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Ken Rooke and I am a 64 year old with creaky joints and a ropey knee who has long held an ambition to walk Wainwright’s Coast to Coast.  My five year old grandson, Jack, who is registered as blind recently joined Actionnaires, which is a club run by Action for the Blind for children who are blind and partially sighted.  This club has opened up a whole new world for Jack, his Actionnaires day is the highlight of his week and he is able to take part in sport in a way he would never have been able to before.  Children at his club have a great time, swimming, cycling, taking part in team games and making new friends.  Funds are much needed to keep these clubs running and I felt as well as raising funds to help keep these much needed clubs afloat, at the same time I could also fulfil my own ambition of walking the Coast to Coast.  There are 28 Actionnaires clubs in the UK and these unique clubs allow children to take part in sport, make friends, keep fit and have fun in a safe and supportive environment.  It is fantastic to see blind and partially sighted children being given the same sporting opportunity as their sighted friends and so important to enable these children to build self-confidence and realise their own potential.  Please take a look for yourself on the Action for Blind People website: www.actionforblindpeople.org.uk.

Outlined below are just some examples of what can be achieved:

·         £75 would pay for venue hire for one club session.

·         £200 would pay for specialist sports equipment needed for an Actionnaires club.

·         £500 would pay for a sports festival or away day.

·         £2,500 would pay for 50 different sports sessions run by specialist coaches, including trampolining, swimming, climbing and archery, which we know children all love.

My walk begins on 16 September from St Bees arriving in Robin Hood’s Bay on 29 September. I would welcome any donation no matter how small.  My ambition is to raise £2,500 to Action for Blind people and with your help I hope I can do it.  Every penny raised will be going to Action for the Blind.  I know times are hard but please give as generously as you can.  Thanks for taking the time for reading my page.
