Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello,

My name is Kerry-Ann Stephenson, and, although i haven’t really worked too long with the Oaklea Trust (2 Years in June) i agree 100% with their morals and their ideas surrounding all that they do.

The Oaklea Trust is a charitable organisation with a vision based on the principle that everyone has a positive contribution to make to society and the right to control their own lives.

My role, being a Life Style Co-Ordinator on the Community Outreach team, is to work within the social model which will enable individuals to look at themselves in a more positive way, helping to increase their self esteem, support future independence and, looking beyond their impairments, work to be a full and equal participant in society.

And for everyday that i am a part of this amazing team, and working with the amazing people that i do...i realise that not only am i very lucky to have this great job, i am very lucky to live the life i do and because of this....i am hoping to help raise some money to show my appreciation of the amazing work that this Trust does.

What it is that i will be doing is for 4 weeks between November and December, i will be going to do some volunteer with local Peruvian people in their local villages...but the biggy will be completing the Inca Trail up to Machu Pichu.

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu consists of three overlapping trails. Mollepata is the longest of the three routes with the highest mountain pass and intersects with the Classic route before crossing Warmiwañusca ("Dead Woman's Pass")...this will be the one that i will be taking part in and will take me up to 4 days to complete.

Located in the Andes mountain range, the trail passes through several types of Andean environments including cloud forest and alpine tundra. Settlements, tunnels, and many Incan ruins are located along the trail before ending the terminus at the Sun Gate on Machu Picchu mountain. The route requires an ascent to beyond 3,660 meters (12,010 ft) above sea level, which can result in altitude sickness...

Wish me luck guys....

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
